Background: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic experiences that occur before the age of 18 that have the potential to cause negative effects such as impaired health and well-being over a long period of time. ACEs experienced by individuals including young adults (18-25 years old) can alter psychological well-being.
Purpose: To determine the relationship of ACEs with psychological well being among young adults.
Method: Quantitative research with a cross-sectional design was conducted in Tangerang Regency in February-April 2024. The sampling technique used purposive sampling and the slovin formula, the number of samples used was 303 respondents. The independent variable in this study is ACE's while the dependent variable is psychological well-being. The instruments used were the Adverse Childhood Experiences questionnaire and the psychological well-being questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with Gamma correlation test.
Results: The majority of the level of Adverse Childhood Experience in respondents in the medium exposure category 255 (84.2%). Most of the respondents' psychological well-being was in the high category 224 (73.9%). The significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) means that there is a relationship between ACEs and psychological well-being in young adults. The correlation coefficient -0.712 means that the strength of the relationship is strong and the direction of the relationship is negative which indicates that the two variables are opposite, the higher the ACEs experienced will be followed by a decrease in individual psychological well-being and vice versa.
Conclusion: There is a significant association between ACEs and psychological well-being in young adults.
